The Bitchin’ Reno
What began with a flood became an opportunity to rethink the home entirely.
From our first meeting, the homeowners were ready to have fun with the renovation. When describing what she wanted, our client gave us one very clear directive: “I just really need it to be bitchin’.” That spirit carried throughout the project as we reworked the kitchen, living room, entry, pantry, and powder baths, giving each space its own personality and plenty of unexpected moments.
The home has modern bones and sits on a large property surrounded by nature, which led us to a vision that felt part boutique hotel and part natural retreat, with a sense of play woven throughout. Dramatic stone slabs were among our earliest selections and became an important anchor for richer color, unusual forms, statement lighting, and some of the more adventurous choices throughout the home.
The pantry may be the best example. Hidden just beyond the kitchen, it was designed as one of the home's “party tricks.” Open the door and you're met with fuchsia lacquered cabinetry, striped marble tile extending to the ceiling, and a custom neon sign. The kitchen itself was designed around two islands, one dedicated to cooking and prep and the other to gathering, allowing both to happen comfortably at the same time.
That same thinking carries into the living spaces. The oversized velvet sectional was selected with plenty of room for family and friends, stools at the table behind it create additional seating, and four swivel chairs can easily move out of the way for the occasional impromptu dance party. This was never meant to be a home where everyone sits quietly and behaves.
The finished home is colorful, playful, and completely personal to the family who lives there. There is a sophistication to the materials and details, but also a freedom and sense of fun that reflects the homeowners beautifully. Most importantly, it was put to full use from the moment they moved back in.
